LINDEN – Home related crimes on the rise.

Linden police are urging residents to be extra careful as we head into the festive season following two incidents of theft.

According to the station’s spokesperson Constable Takalani Sibiya, they received reports of theft of a vehicles wheels and a dustbin which they are currently look into along with other housebreaking cases.

Sibiya said, “A complainant had alleged that the wheels of his car were stolen on October 16. He stated that his Toyota Hilux vehicle was parked at his home but discovered the following morning that his four wheels had been stolen.”

The complainant found that the pedestrian gate to his home had been damaged a his vehicle was left sitting on bricks.

In the other incident, the theft of a dustbin took place in Fontainebleau on October 15. According to Sibiya, the complainant claimed that she took the dustbin outside for refuse collection the night before but the following day it was gone.

“We would like to warn the community about the theft of dustbins around Linden and Fontainebleau area. We are urging residents to take back their bins into their yard as soon as it is empty to avoid possible theft.”

Sibiya also advised residents to mark their bins with something that will be difficult to remove so they could identify them during their patrols of the area.

“We do come across some people pushing dustbins with things inside it and they say it belongs to them. Without any proof that it belongs to someone else, makes it difficult to arrest [someone] or to confiscate the dustbin.
