Clowns claim the crown

FAIRLAND – Learners also had a chance to demonstrate their shoutcasting abilities by commentating during recorded streams of the matches.

Brandcliff House hosted their annual e-sport tournament.

Brandcliff House’s 2021 Gauntlet e-sport tournament was one for the history books due to the intensity of the competition and increased participation by learners.

Principal of the school Jonathan Linde was surprised to see the competitive nature of those involved in tournament and said it was the standout feature of this year’s event.

He said, “Learners of all skill levels, not only hardcore gamers, participated this year. As a team-based event, there was a healthy element of camaraderie between contenders. In the end, the younger participants really applied pressure on their older and more experienced opponents and never conceded easy wins.”

Tournament favourites ‘Hybrid’ was eventually defeated by team ‘Clowns’ who achieved a convincing victory in a nail-biting final. The rookie team ‘Is The Name Changeable?’ ultimately took third place.

This year’s event consisted of 39 learners who were split into 13 teams with players going for the crown and prizes sponsored by ComicConAfrica. Linde added, “The competition was intense, especially as the final few teams battled for victory. Learners also had a chance to demonstrate their shoutcasting [e-sport commentator] abilities by commentating during recorded streams of the matches.”

Linde and the school is proud of every contender that participated in the Gauntlet tournament for displaying team spirit and enthusiasm. He also thanked the ComicConAfrica team for their continued support in the 2021 Gauntlet with generous prizes for the winning team and for providing mentorship to their aspiring shoutcasters and streamers.
