Support group for depression and anxiety related to brain Injury launched

JOBURG – The mental health support group is free and will be meeting on the second Thursday of every month.

The South African Depression and Anxiety Group (Sadag) launched a new mental health support group for depression and anxiety related to brain injury.

The launch on September 30 via Zoom saw stakeholders discuss the importance of such a group. The mental health support group is free and will be meeting on the second Thursday of every month. This group offers a place of comfort, support and mutual understanding. Support groups provide a safe space for people living with mental illness to connect, learn and share with others who have been through similar experiences.

From time to time there will be guest speakers and experts who will at times be giving talks to the group. Groups discuss effective ways of coping, and how to support a loved one with their mental illness. For more information or to attend the free support group, contact Aruna on 080 021 2223.

This group is one of many run by Sadag – a non-profit organisation (NPO) striving to educate patients, families, professionals and the general public on the nature and management of mental illnesses.

The majority of Sadag support groups are run by patients and/or ex-patients who have first-hand experience of mental illness. These groups allow members the opportunity to form connections with others experiencing similar troubles and to learn from one another in a non-judgmental, confidential atmosphere.
