Ry-Ma-In Self-Help Centre is our local recycle point

linden – Signage was recently unveiled at the non-profit organisation by Mpact Recycling depicting it as a drop-off site.

Did you know that Ry-Ma-In Self-Help Centre is a community recycling point for the Linden community and surrounds?

To honour the self-help centre as being one of Mpact Recycling top suppliers, the organisation unveiled signage that advertises how the centre is a recycling drop-off point. Though they had always been, the organisation wanted to make it official with a sign.

Yasmeen Adam from Mpact Recycling said this was a way to show the centre that the organisation values their contributions to recycling, “We also wanted to attract the public to bring in as much recycle material as possible.”

Adam explained how the centre, which serves as home to quadriplegics and paraplegics, is a non-profit organisation and one of the ways the centre raises funds is through a charity shop. “There they sell second-hand household items and whatever they do not sell, particularly old books and magazines, gets recycled by us.”

The recycle company set the centre up with recycling stands and each of these stands is for specific recyclable material. Community members can go to the centre and drop off their recyclable goods which Mpact Recycling then buys from the non-profit paying them a rate per ton. The recycle stands are emptied weekly and Adam shared it is usually high volumes that are collected. Money they get from recycling is another stream of income for the self-help centre.

Adam explained they run various community programmes, like the one found here, at other charities, hospices and SPCAs.
