Occupational therapy week at Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital

CORONATIONVILLE – The hospital commemorated the week by hosting educational talks about occupational therapy.


Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital recently commemorated Occupational Therapy Week from September 27 to October 1.

This annual commemoration is meant to promote the missions and goals of occupational therapy. This form of therapy is said to be all about the conditions of any person with physical, sensory or cognitive impairments. The role of an occupational therapist is to assist patients through the therapeutic use of everyday activities and also assist these patients to develop, recover, improve, as well as maintain the skills needed for daily living and working.

During this week, the hospital’s occupational therapists and occupational therapist technicians gave educational talks at the hospital on neurodevelopmental supportive care, developmental milestones and the role of occupational therapists with staff members and parents.

Occupational therapist technician Veronica Lloyd said, “Rahima Moosa hospital assists children from the ages of nought months to six years with a variety of conditions.”
She also emphasised the importance of children playing with toys as this develops their motor and cognitive skills, helping them to overcome life’s obstacles.

Ward projects were conducted with the children and pamphlets and flowers were handed out to show appreciation.
