Bee stings kill two puppies

ROOSEVELT PARK – A local's seven-month-old puppies stood no chance of survival after enduring multiple bee stings.

A couple reels over the death of their seven month old puppies after they were severely stung by bees on September 16.

Jasmin and Jacqui Robberts along with their four year-old-son moved in to their current home about 10 months ago. On their first night at the house they heard a buzzing like sound they likened to a sound only some sort of heat source would make. Upon inspection they found out that it was instead a large bee hive.

Jasmin, who is highly allergic to bees, said she had communicated with the owner of the house that they had found this hive. To which they were told measures would be put in place that would safeguard her and her family from the bees. These measures, to their account, were never put in place and for them, the death of their puppies proves as testament enough.

The dogs, Rubble and Harley were adoringly loved by their son, Noah, with him taking a great liking to Rubble who he named after his favourite character from hot cartoon, Paw Patrol. He know regularly asks about the whereabouts of his beloved dogs since the deadly incident.

Though the hive is no longer on the property following the incident, the family hopes the hive was humanely removed thereafter..

Beekeeper and local, Edd Scott, said the humane way to rescue a swarm of bees is to lightly smoke them to calm them down so that the beekeeper can work comfortably with them. “This can only be done after dark as the risk is too great during the day as they will definitely get out of hand and go into a stinging frenzy,” he said.

The Northcliff Melville Times has reached out to the owner of the property for further comment. This is a developing story.
