Liquor reminded outlets work within Covid-19 regulations

BRIXTON – Site inspections will be held to ensure compliance.

Brixton police management and liquor officers want to remind all restaurant owners and managers of Covid-19 regulations.

In a statement, the Brixton Police Station explained all restaurants, bars, shabeens and taverns are allowed to trade but to a limitation of a maximum of 50 people or less for indoor venues and 100 people or less for outdoor venues.

The statement added, should the venue be too small to hold 50 people indoors or 100 people outside, a distance of at least one and a half metres from each other must be obtained and at no more than 50% of the capacity of the venue may be used.

It also advised, the owner or manager of a restaurant, bar, shabeen or tavern must ensure compliance with the limitation to the number of persons. All liquor outlets are warned to comply with the rules and regulations that are set clear in the Government Gazette of July 25.

Operations and site inspections will be held to ensure compliance, and failure to comply is an offence which faces a fine or imprisonment for a period of up to six months or both. The station also reminded liquor outlets that the permit to trade must be visible in the store at all times and that the trading hours must strictly be adhered to.

Brixton police are also in the process of establishing a liquor forum and are inviting all liquor outlet owners to support this initiative and get involved. All the owners and managers of liquor outlets are requested to work hand in hand with the SAPS to ensure the safety and security of all businesses in the area and community members.
