Climb a great local hill

MELVILLE – Though many places may be closed due to lockdown level 4, Melville Koppies is still open for you to find adventure in.

On June 27, President Cyril Ramaphosa gave the news that all in Gauteng must stay indoors instead of taking a break and possibly going on a planned holiday to warmer locations.

Jenny Grice, a volunteer at the Melville Koppies, quoted former president Nelson Mandela, who once said the long road to freedom he had discovered that after climbing a great hill, one finds that there are more to climb. “However, parks and outside places like Melville Koppies are still open,” she said, adding one can experience first-hand what Mandela was talking about.

Grice said at the entrance of the koppies, one will see one hill, but just like Mandela said, when you reach the top of that ridge, there is another. “But the climb is not too severe and once you’ve summited it, you’ll be rewarded with views across the entire Joburg and a feeling that you’ve got on top of something.”
