Growing Champions turn 10

NORTHCLIFF – The GC members, past and present have also thanked the community for what all the support they have received over the years.

Hip hip hooray as non-profit organisation Growing Champions (GC) recently celebrated their 10th birthday.

Reaching such a milestone has not been easy and founder of the organisation, Samantha Toweel-Moore said the greater community of Northcliff was why they stood tall today.

Toweel-Moore said, “GC has been shown so much love, consistency, effort and investment by our community and this is the most beautiful miracle of all. To those that have supported us, you are a true testimony to human kindness and the power of love, and we just want to say a huge thank you to each and every individual who takes the time to contribute whatever they have.”

The organisation empowers children who come from low-income groups and abusive, drug and gang-infested homes to find the champion within and lead their lives. Toweel-Moore looked back at the past 10 years with pride and joy and reflected on the beginnings of the organisation.

“GC was built on an impulse and the passion and desire to help. There was no business plan neither strategy involved. All I knew was that as a trained therapist, I could help people advance themselves as humans and that this is a path I wanted to take.” Fast forward 10 years and there is a long list of achievements that GC can hold high to the community.

“We have stood a decade and now have two safe homes, one for boys and the other for girls. We have a minibus to transport the children, we have children currently enrolled in university, college and school, and help them through their academics, extra-murals and people skills, and of course the football which has been around for a number of years.”

One of the people the organisation had helped was Clive Letshaba who thanked the community for all the support over the years Letshaba said, “Because of your help, we have been able to improve ad grow as individuals. GC has taught us how to grow up and have the right attitude towards life and respect towards everything and everyone.”

From those that helped with tutoring sessions, sports training, life coaching, part-time jobs and activities, provided meals and transport, helped keep the lights on and a roof over their heads, Growing Champions was forever grateful for this and wished that your contributions returned tenfold.
