The chance to be one with the Fairland Air Scouts and world

FAIRLAND – The Scouts law includes that a scout is to be loyal, courteous, thrifty and of clean thoughts, words and deeds.

The Air Scouts group is looking to attract new members to their group.

Fancy a night out under the stars at Delta Park or a hike through the tall grasslands of Gauteng – perhaps you want your children to learn skills in outdoor survival, problem identifying and solving and innovation – then the Fairland Air Scouts is what you’re looking for. The group, based on the corner of Kessel and Cecilia streets in Fairland, is inviting both children and adults to join their group where they can engage in the above and many more. These include activities such as going to museums, stargazing, arts and crafts to community involvement projects such as clean-ups, helping at animal shelters, collecting things for charity and much more.

The Scouts are separated into three age groups starting with the Cubs that are between seven and 10 years old. The Cubs can expect to play, sing and do things with friends while discovering and exploring new places, plants, animals, cultures, camps and technologies. The Scouts are aged between 11 and 17 and these young adults can expect adventures of hiking, camping, leadership and skills training and experiences in being one with the environment. If you’re 18 and over the Scouts still have a place for you and this would be their Rovers. This group participates in adventurous hikes, trips and camps but also focuses on helping others feel more at home with the Scouts group.

As fun and adventurous as the Scouts can be, there is a level of discipline and respect that they all have to obey, regardless of age. The Scouts law, made up of 10 principles, and the Scout’s promise, a declaration of commitment and duty, govern all those that wear the Scouts uniform. The Scout’s promise reads, ‘On my honour I promise that I will do my best: To do my duty to God and my country; To help other people at all times; To obey the Scouts law.’ The Scouts law includes that a Scout is to be loyal, courteous, thrifty and of clean thoughts, words and deeds.

The Fairland Air Scouts meet at their hall in the Fairland Park on the corner of Kessel and Cecilia street on Friday afternoons. They are only active during school terms where the Cubs meet between 4pm and 5.30pm while the Scouts meet between 6pm and 8.30pm. The Rovers, due to their personal and professional commitments, meet as and when the group collectively agrees to do so.
