VOX POP: A year of great change for us all

VICTORY PARK – The last year has been one of many dramatic changes to the way we live. Here are some of the life changing experiences locals have had to face in the year.

It has been a year since the Covid-19 world pandemic changed all of our lives irrevocably.

As we look over the year that was, Northcliff Melville Times asked its readers how their lives have personally been impacted in this time.

Here is what they had to say…

SYLVIA MBHELE: Life has changed for better and worse. The positive has been spending family time together and appreciate each other. Also spending time in nature. The negative aspect has been jobs being lost, income reduced and people dying of Covid. Masks have taken away our smiles. Photo: Supplied
MPHO THINANE: It has been very hard because I lost my mum to Covid and I became the breadwinner. Photo: Supplied
NIRVANA ROGERS: We were asked to stay indoors and stay safe. I did just that but although Covid never got me – I endured a spouse’s retrenchment, housebreaking, and a nephew’s suicide all related to Covid in one way or another. Events that shook my safety and security left me aching for things to go back to the way it was. I remind myself that every day above ground is a good day and keeping hope alive is what we should all strive for. Photo: Supplied
VAN HEERDEN’S: Lockdown allowed us as a family to connect on a deeper level. We revived our veggie garden, watched it grow and had enough to eat and share with our neighbours. Our neighbourhood became very close, we now have a whole micro-share initiative, where I’ll send onions to everyone in exchange for eggs from their chickens, or trade spinach for tomatoes etc. Photo: Supplied
