WATCH: Students confront police during protest (day 2)

Students are furious after an innocent bystander died during the alleged police and student crossfire.

Student protests have continued on 10 March after protests took place throughout the previous day (9 March). Yesterday, tyres could be seen burning with rocks thrown across Empire Road near the M1 bridge.

The students attribute their march to demands for better access to financial support and the #FeesMustFall campaign.

Caxton Joburg north journalist Andile Dlodlo is on the scene and confirms that students are confronting police after a body was found. The person allegedly died after being caught between the police and protester violence. It has now been alleged that the innocent bystander was on the way to the doctor. Students are increasing in their numbers along De Beers Street.

Wits University SRC president Mpendulo Mfeka has arrived to address students.

Traffic is being diverted by marching students on Jorrison Street as of 2pm.

UPDATE: At around 1.40pm students created a guard of honour as the body was taken away in a state mortuary van. Watch the video below.
