Another stellar performance from King David Victory Park’s matrics

VICTORY PARK – For the 37th consecutive year, the school achieved a 100 per cent pass rate.

The matric Class of 2020 had 71 learners sit down to write the NSC examinations which followed the IEB curriculum. One of the school’s matrics made it onto the IEB outstanding list while five learners made it onto the commendable list. The matric group attained 247 distinctions.

The principal of the high school, Andrew Baker said this was a phenomenal group of matric learners who in the face of the Covid-19 year managed to exceed the school’s expectations. He was proud of all the learners’ work ethic and perseverance as he noted that 10 learners had averages of above 90 per cent. “There were 3.48 distinctions per candidate on average and for me, one of the greatest statistics is that 96 per cent of the children results were all Cs and above.”

Baker added that the class would rather be recognised for their group achievement rather than putting the emphasis on individual results. He praised the head boy and head girl for leading their grade through an incredibly difficult year. “I want to pay tribute to my amazing teachers as well who went beyond the call of duty during the lockdown and when we came back to school, they kept going and encouraged the children when they became disillusioned with what was happening during the year.”

For the current group of matrics, he recognised that it would be a tough year, one that would be filled with all types of challenges again.

“We have learned so much from last year that this group will enjoy the benefits of what we learned in the previous year.”
