Taxi driver gunned down in Cresta hijacking

CRESTA – Public warned not to approach suspects if spotted.


Linden police have confirmed that a taxi driver was killed on the morning of 28 January when his vehicle was stolen by two unknown suspects.

According to the station’s spokesperson, Constable Takalani Matumba the driver of the Toyota Siyaya taxi was shot three times by the suspects in his taxi and his body was dumped in Weltevreden Road. The suspects took off with the vehicle. “According to a witness, the two suspects were passengers in the taxi and the shooting took place inside the taxi.”

The motive for the shooting was still unclear and Matumba said an investigation was underway. Police were asking the public to be on the lookout for the white Toyota Siyaya taxi with registration number WRB 765 GP. “Anyone who sees the above-mentioned taxi with that registration number, please don’t approach them as they are armed and dangerous. “Rather call the police station or CrimeStop on 10111.”
