Ferndale water leak fixed

FERNDALE – A large water leak on Rugby Avenue was fixed on 1 December.

A large underground water leak on Rugby Avenue in Ferndale has been fixed by Joburg Water on 1 December.
“We were so worried that there was a potential sinkhole that could appear, as thousands of litres of freshwater were leaking from underneath the road surface,” said Bronweyn Craig of the Bryanfern Residents Association.

Ward 104 councillor Mike Wood confirmed later the same day that the issue had been addressed and the leak had been fixed.
“The team from Joburg Water reacted incredibly quickly to the major burst, and their efforts need to be commended.

“The burst pipe at the corner of Fleet Street and Rugby Avenue was most likely caused by ageing infrastructure. Further down in the suburb, pipes have been replaced, but the City is yet to progress these improvements further up the lines,” said Wood.

He wished to express his thanks to the members of the Bryanfern Residents Association and Special Ops Security who worked in ensuring the residents’ safety and reported the issue.

“The big issue is getting the road tarred as there is a current backlog, but I am endeavouring to follow up with the Johannesburg Roads Agency to ensure that it is sorted out soonest.”
