Domestic violence safety tips

BRIXTON – During an argument, avoid areas in the house where weapons or dangerous objects might be available such as knives and other sharp objects.

Police share safety tips on how to deal with domestic violence at the moment.

Domestic violence is a major issue in South African communities mainly affecting women and children. As Domestic Violence Awareness Month comes to an end, unfortunately, there will still be thousands of vulnerable people abused by those close to them. Having to help victims of domestic violence, Brixton Police Station is fully aware of the reality and decided to share safety tips with victims of such.

Brixton Police Station spokesperson Jeanette Backhoff reminded victims, “Remember you are strong, powerful and valuable, whatever you are facing can be overcome as long as you take the first step.”
She pledged the full support of the station to anyone looking to take action against domestic violence. She encouraged the community to continue to work together to locate, help and support victims of domestic violence.
