Routes to avoid in Braamfontein during trade unions’ nationwide strike

BRAAMFONTEIN – The protest is expected to start at 11am and end at 2pm.

Three affiliate trade unions namely the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu), South African Federation of Trade Unions (Safta), and Federation of Unions of South Africa (Fedusa) will be embarking on a nationwide strike today, 7 October over gender-based violence, corruption unemployment and wages among others.

According to the Metro police spokesperson Wayne Minnaar, the Cosatu protest in Braamfontein will be conducted by means of a motorcade and approximately 60 cars will leave Cosatu House in Braamfontein and proceed into Harisson Street. “It will turn right into Wolmarans Street, go left into Simmonds Street, turn right into Anderson Street, then right into Pixley Ka Sema Street,” said Minnaar.

Minnaar added that the first memorandum would be handed in at the Mineral Council in Marshall Street. “They will then go up Pixley Ka Sema Street, turn left into Rahima Moosa Street and hand over a second memorandum at the office of the Premier.”

The protest is expected to start at 11am and end at 2pm.

Police officers will be present to monitor the protest.
