The rocks of Brixton Police Station

BRIXTON – Wishing all women well health, safety and success.

Police station hosts Women’s Function to celebrate and honour the bravest women of the community.

Draped in their most beautiful dresses and shoes, the women of Brixton Police Station chanted ‘Wathint’ Abafazi, Wathint’ Imbokodo’ (You strike a woman, you strike a rock) as they hosted their Women’s Function for 2020. The function was hosted to give the hardworking, fearless and resourceful women of the station a day to celebrate themselves and their efforts to the police and its precinct. With the reading of scriptures and prayers, a minute of silence for women lost this year, lots of singing and dancing and an exciting best-dressed competition, the women of the station were served a memorable and honourable day.Station spokesperson Jeanette Backhoff said, “These ladies do an amazing job every day and we need to take a moment to thank them all for their work. The station wouldn’t be where it is today if it wasn’t for these women.”

Captain Belinda Mothapo explained that the Covid-19 pandemic significantly disrupted the station’s Women’s Network to host all the events they had planned for the year but this event was very necessary. She stated, “Our plan to gather today was to remind us all how much we love each other, I love each and every one of you personally, one by one. As the Women’s Network, let this be something that we can record this year of us coming together to show love, care and support for each other.”

The stations Emerencia Smith prayed for all the women of the country wishing them well health, safety and success and a dramatic change in the horrors facing women globally.

One of the most difficult tasks of the day was to decide on the best-dressed woman at the event but it was nothing a dance competition wasn’t able to settle. There were also prizes handed out on the day sponsored by HMA Security to which Backhoff expressed her thanks. She said, “HMA Security is always there for us and we really do appreciate their support and all the things the sponsored today. We hope we continue having the great relationship we have with them as a valued partner in the community.”
