De La Salle Holy Cross College Junior School cultivate heritages

VICTORY PARK – The school had a glorious day celebrating their cultural differences together.

De La Salle Holy Cross College Junior School dazzled in their various cultural clothing as they celebrated Heritage Day.

“Not only are we celebrating our individual heritage but also the cultures of the people we share this community with,” Neil Berndsen, the school’s headmaster.
He added that the day is about the sharing of our cultures and, in this process, so much learning takes place.

Berndsen said the children used the day to showcase what they learned from their families and what they learning from each other. “This is a celebration of the individual personalities that make up this special community and country.”

On the day, worldwide hit song, Jerusalema [https://youtu.be/fCZVL_8D048] was played and it prompted each grade to show their best moves. Berndsen noted how this song shows that music spreads a message across all cultures and borders. Along with the dancing, there was also a kite-making competition where learners exhibited their own creativity and cultures. Throughout the day the theme of self-celebration tied in with the celebration of others. “The diversity of our country is not a weakness but an absolute strength.”

For the community, the school hopes they adopt the same mindset, we all have such a rich knowledge of where we come from; foods, traditional attires and, cultural activities, “These aspects are so much more powerful when they shared and respected”
