89 suspects arrested over the weekend by Johannesburg Central police

JOBURG – The suspects are expected to appear at various magistrate's courts from Monday, 7 September.


Johannesburg Central Police Station officers arrested 89 suspects for various offences during crime combating operations that were conducted from 4 to 6 September.

Suspects were arrested around Mondeor, Booysens, Moffatview, Langlaagte, Fairlands, Sophiatown, Brixton and the Johannesburg Central area.

Among the suspects who were arrested during the operations; eleven suspects were arrested for murder, two for attempted murder, four for possession of a hijacked motor vehicle, five for armed robbery, six for common robbery, seven for domestic violence and eight for drunk and driving.

“The rest of the suspects were arrested for committing other crimes ranging from possession of drugs, possession of the suspected stolen property, fraud, shoplifting, malicious damage to property, assault common, assault with an intention to cause grievous bodily harm, theft and theft of a motor vehicle,” said Major General Max Masha, the commander of the Johannesburg Central District office in a statement on 6 September.

“Most of the suspects will be appearing on 7 September in the various magistrate’s courts around the Johannesburg area,” Masha concluded.
