Victory Park Adult Education Centre reopens

VICTORY – The centre has been facilitated by De La Salle Holy Cross College since 1985.

The Victory Park Adult Education Centre has reopened after lockdown.

This is a satellite school for the City Deep Public Learning Centre that has been facilitated by De La Salle Holy Cross College since 1985.

Classes are held every weekday from 6pm to 8pm and from 9am to 4pm on Saturdays. Classes cater to those who have challenges completing their schooling. Many of the learners go on to further their studies. Its aim is to create a supportive and effective learning environment for learners. The classes are free for learners from grades 1 to 11 and Grade 12s pay a registration fee of R100 and an additional R100 per subject taken.

The centre’s principal, Francis Mabunda, said he was impressed by the commitment shown by the learners returning to night school after lockdown. Some learners have not managed to get back, so there are some places available.

“Our aim is to empower, motivate and enable students to prosper in their chosen careers and contribute effectively and efficiently to the economy,” said Mabunda.

De La Salle Holy Cross College principal, Debbie Harris, said the centre is doing exemplary work to help those who have been given fewer opportunities to advance themselves and are hoping to be able to complete the various syllabuses this year, despite the reduced teaching time.

“We are so inspired by these hardworking students and our contribution and support reflects our school motto: Be first that you may be of service,” concluded Harris.
