Delta Park walker robbed by armed suspects on Youth Day

DELTA PARK – Police said the victim's jacket was torn and she was not injured.

A Delta Park walker was apparently saved from serious injury by her clothing after she was robbed in the park during the early morning of 16 June. Linden police spokesperson Constable Takalani Matumba said the victim was walking in the park when she was allegedly approached by three men. One of them was armed with a knife and the other with pepper spray. “The suspects threatened her with a knife and demanded her cell phone. They searched through her jacket, took her cellphone and ran away,” said Matumba. Information circulated on community groups suggested that the suspects attempted to stab the victim but her clothing prevented an injury. Matumba continued, “The victim’s jacket was torn and she was not injured. An investigation into the incident is currently underway, and we appeal to the community for any information surrounding the incident.” She further encouraged walkers, joggers and runners to remain vigilant of crime when making use of all of the city’s parks and report crimes when they occurred.
