Gauteng Covid-19 cases rise above 2000

Twenty-two people have died, 1 428 have recovered and 47 are currently hospitalised in public and private facilities.

According to the latest statistics released by the Gauteng Health Department, the City of Johannesburg, with 1106 confirmed Covid-19 cases, had the highest number cases of all five districts in the province.

As of 12 May, the department said, 2 014 confirmed cases of Covid-19 had been registered in Gauteng. Twenty-two people had died, while 1 428 had recovered. Forty-seven Covid-19 patients were currently hospitalised in public and private facilities.

Of the 9 673 contacts (those who were in contact with people who had tested positive for Covid-19) traced, 7 872 had completed the 14-day monitoring period with no symptoms reported and had been de-isolated.

• City of Johannesburg
1 106 total cases, 21 new cases, 912 recoveries
• Ekurhuleni
448 total cases, 10 new cases, 351 recoveries
• City of Tshwane
299 total cases, 6 new cases, 119 recoveries
• West Rand
64 total cases, 3 new cases, 37 recoveries
• Sedibeng
26 total cases, no new cases, 9 recoveries
• Unallocated
71 total cases

2 014 confirmed cases, 43 new cases, 1 428 recoveries, 22 deaths

The department added that allocating Gauteng cases to respective districts was ongoing. Only once more information on contact numbers and addresses were obtained from law enforcement agencies, provincial outbreak teams and the National Institute of Communicable Disease could corrections be made.
