According to a police statement, ‘The officers saw a man alighting from the vehicle and cornered him. The suspect resisted arrest and his accomplice opened fire on police, striking and killing a 25-year-old man and wounding another person before fleeing. Police recovered an unlicensed firearm with no serial number and live ammunition.’

The suspect was arrested and will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court. He faces charges of murder, attempted murder, and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition as these offences were committed in the course of him resisting arrest. His accomplice remains at large.
