Covid-19: Safety first as City Power resumes certain services

Staff will be provided with the necessary Personal Protective Equipment and sanitisers to enable them to complete their tasks with due regard for the safety of both themselves and their customers.

After Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma gave municipalities the go-ahead to resume certain operations as long as stringent safety protocols were observed, City Power today (11 May) announced it would be gradually reintroducing services that may require home visits.

The entity is looking to roll out certain services such as meter reading, changing faulty meters, normalisation of bridged meters, installing smart meters, and meter audits (to eliminate incorrect billing and estimates).

City Power has pledged to adhere to all Covid-19 public health rules and regulations relating to gatherings, physical distancing, and health and safety and encourages residents to allow meter reading teams access to their properties.

‘The safety of our customers and that of our employees is of paramount importance, and we will ensure that our teams adhere to the defined guidelines, including social distancing, when interacting with customers and colleagues,” City Power said in a statement.

The statement added that employees would be provided with the Personal Protective Equipment necessary to enable them to safely carry out their tasks. The teams had also, it said, been instructed to wear their masks at all times and to use sanitiser before and after touching equipment in customers’ homes.

At this stage, City Power will still not offer walk-in customer services at any of its offices and sites.
