Mission of Mercy’s (Mom) premises at the Musallah in Albertville has become a hub for IT training for the community.

Twelve people from diverse backgrounds, ages and areas recently graduated from their IT Easy Steps course and their achievements were celebrated. Outstanding commitment was shown by the participants especially those who travelled daily from the Slovo park settlement to the centre by taxi. The five students who graduated on the day were Sibasa Ramushengi, Fadeel Roskin, Dean Duvenage, Nazim Cotwal and Jan Temple.

There was a great turnout and lots of excitement at the multicultural graduation day. In attendance were many prominent people and activists from the surrounding communities. As one of Mom’s community development projects to address unemployment, it has established a training centre last year at the Albertville Musallah premises. Conveniently located in the heart of the community, it offers two professional Seta accredited training courses based on the internationally recognised Cisco IT program.

In the Easy Steps course, students were taught computer skills like using the Internet and creating emails, all the way to more advanced skills like creating presentations, budgets and performing financial calculations. These new skills have greatly improved their job prospects. There has also been a more advanced Cisco network engineer course developed. This course will teach students how networks operate, network parameters and administration. This qualification is highly sought after in the IT world.

Mom is a registered non-profit and public benefit organisation based on Islamic principles and has been involved in various projects for the upliftment of previously disadvantaged people and those who have fallen on tough times. They help all people regardless of religion, race, background, gender or age.

New courses are scheduled for mid-March, and some will be offered several times throughout the year. Apply now to avoid disappointment.
