What does Linden CPF’s executive committee do?

LINDEN – One of the important functions the CPF performs is to make sure complaints and compliments regarding the station are addressed and that compliments are given and complaints investigated and followed up.

One of the important functions the CPF performs is to make sure complaints and compliments regarding the station are addressed and that compliments are given and complaints investigated and followed up.

Linden Community Police Forum secretary Annelize Tichauer said that the CPF Exco as well as each one of the sector forums have to keep a record of meetings and have to put in place project plans and well-documented projects that are done during the year.

These projects and files are audited regularly but both provincial police and the office of the MEC for safety and security. Projects identified need to link directly to the specific needs of each sector and have to address problem areas addressing crime and crime prevention.

An example of such a project can be a drive to get all domestic workers in the sector on a single communication platform and arranging meetings for them to attend info sessions by police and security companies on how to stay safe and what to do in the case of an emergency.

She added, “A very important component of the CPF Exco is the victim support unit, and most of the funds we raise are devoted to keeping this very vital part of our team going.”

The unit is made up out of a group of dedicated volunteer counsellors. Many of them are psychologists, but it is not a requirement. Trauma counselling training is provided when you join the team.

“Crime affects our lives and unfortunately all too often. When an incident occurs, it can be very daunting for the victim to go through the process of not only dealing with the aftermath but also just the formal process of reporting and documenting the incident. The responding police unit will notify the victim support team and a member will be at the crime scene assisting the victims to understand what is happening and provide emotional support.

“Very often when tragedy strikes it is impossible to think clearly and it is good to have someone next to you who knows what needs to be done next.”

Tichauer added that the CPF is always in need for victim support counsellors to help out in times of emergencies.
