King David Victory Park to have Little Shop of Horrors production

VICTORY PARK – Come see how Seymour saves the day from the blood-thirsty exotic plant.

King David Victory Park will be hosting their major production for the year, Little Shop of Horrors, from 22 to 25 March.

According to the director of the play Renos Spanoudes, the main storyline follows the journey of a young man named Seymour who has struggled in life. He finds a bit of good luck after someone offers him a chance at life with a decent place to live and work. “That somebody is Mrs Mushnick and she gives him a job and a roof over his head and he’s very grateful because otherwise, he would be in the streets of skid row as an orphan and a poor boy.”

King David Victory Park’s Karen Katzew will be playing the role of Audrey in their school’s production of Little Shop of Horrors. Karen believes this play has much more meaning behind it and ‘it’s such a fun-filled, wonderful production and I really recommend that everyone comes to see it’. Photo: Andile Dlodlo

As Seymour works towards his new life, he meets this lovely, beautiful lady named Audrey, who is also a colleague. Just before things can get even better for Seymour the store starts to experience a slump in business. Seymour thinks he can save the day by buying this special plant but little did he know this would start another adventure.

Spanoudes explained, “While buying plants to sell in the shop, he comes across this plant seller selling exotic plants and he buys one of them all while a total solar eclipse takes place. Seymour doesn’t think anything of it, takes the plant and went back to the florist but soon the plant starts to get a life of its own.”

The harmless exotic plant can now speak and move but it needs one thing to do this. “It wants blood, whether that’s from wild animals or human beings,” continued Spanoudes.

The production goes on to follow Seymour’s changed life thanks to this plant. The audience will start questioning what will happen once Seymour discovers what is happening and how this plant will keep itself alive. In addition to this, Seymour names his plant after the co-worker he has secretly and completely fallen in love with, Audrey. Those in attendance are guaranteed a night of suspense, a gripping storyline and some of the best actings you will ever see to bring this production alive.
