Load-shedding not implemented today

JOBURG – Eskom said that several units have been restored successfully and good progress has been made in replenishing emergency reserves.

Eskom customers were relieved to hear that they will be spared from experiencing load-shedding today (12 February).

The power utility announced that there was some improvement to the power grid, however, this did not mean that the days of load-shedding were over. Eskom said should there be a shift to the system, load-shedding would be implemented at short notice.

Eskom said unplanned outages or breakdowns were at 10 456MW as at 5.50am this morning.
“Customers are advised that any additional shifts on the system may require a change in the load-shedding stage. We, therefore, request customers to use electricity sparingly and to reduce demand during this period. Eskom also wishes to remind South Africans that there is a possibility of increased load-shedding over the next 18 months as we are conducting critical maintenance to restore the ageing plant to good health.”
To assist the power utility in reducing load-shedding, Eskom appeals to customers to use electricity sparingly by doing the following:
Eskom appealed to customers to revisit their load-shedding schedules on the Eskom or local municipal websites, depending on their electricity supplier, to review amendments.
