Eskom downgrades load-shedding to stage 1

JOBURG – An update with regards to the development of load-shedding will be given by the power utility this evening (10 February).

Joburg was not only hit by heavy floods over the weekend but also stage 2 load-shedding.
Eskom customers will, however, be happy to hear that the power utility had downgraded stage 2 load-shedding to stage 1.
Even though this is good news for South Africans, Eskom has emphasised that there was still a very high possibility that load-shedding could continue for the next 18 months as they were still restoring the ageing power plants.
An update regarding the development of load-shedding will be given by the power utility this evening (10 February).
“Our teams are working hard to reduce unplanned outages which were at 11 015 MW this morning. Critical maintenance continues to be conducted on units that are currently on planned outages,’ Eskom said in a released statement.
Eskom also advised customers that any additional shifts in demand and on the system may require a change in the load-shedding stage. “We, therefore, request customers to help reduce demand and use electricity sparingly, taking into consideration that better-managed demand will shorten this bout of load-shedding. “
To assist Eskom in reducing the stage of load-shedding, customers are urged to use electricity sparingly by doing the following:
Eskom appealed to customers to revisit their load-shedding schedules on the Eskom or local municipal websites, depending on their electricity supplier, to review amendments.
