Hoërskool Linden’s 279 A’s

LINDEN – Hoërskool Linden's learners collected their matric certificates at the school on 8 January.


Hoërskool Linden celebrated the results of its matric Class of 2019 after their learners collected their matric certificates at the school on 8 January.

The school’s learners achieved a stunning total of 279 distinctions, meaning that an average of 1.85 distinctions was achieved per learner.

They managed to achieve a pass rate of 99.33 per cent with a bachelor degree entrance rate of 90 per cent.

The school’s top achiever and dux learner was Nicola de Bruyn who achieved an overall mark of 94 per cent for the year, and Wilne Britz who achieved an amazing nine distinctions.

Achieving a full house of seven distinctions each were Nicola de Bruyn, Lily Dorfling, Alexander Greyling, Shanelle Nagel, Paula Prinsloo, and Ruan van der Spoel.

Top achieving student Nicola de Bruyn said that she was ecstatic with her results.

“It was a lot of hard work, but I kept it up consistently. My favourite subject was mathematics. I can remember in Grade 8 not enjoying maths at all, but with practice, I have grown to love it. I cannot wait to study medicine at the University of Pretoria this year. I am going to miss my school, and it was an honour to study here.”

Deputy principal Nico van Niekerk said, “It was a tough and exhausting year for both our educators and students, but our hard work and their dedication paid off – 279 distinctions is a result to be proud of.”

Mila Botha, Xander Coetzer, Charlize Cuyler, Thinette du Toit, Nina Hugo, Imke Jonker, Simone Nel, Cara Prinsloo, Timmy Schwartz, Rene Smith, Wouter Taljaard, and Anja van der Westhuizen achieved six distinctions each.

Principal Johan Wiehahn said, “We had many challenges this year and our biggest focus was to show our learners that all subjects are equally important. These results are a testament to that philosophy and I am so incredibly proud of our students and our staff.”

Head boy Marig Engelbrecht added, “As a school, we all did amazingly well throughout the year and during our exams, and I know that we are a resilient bunch of future leaders. I wish all of my classmates well, and I am so excited to see what the future holds.”
