Load-shedding continues – Stage 2 implemented for Sunday

JOBURG – Eskom has moved load-shedding back to Stage 2 after implementing Stage 1 late last night.

Eskom implemented Stage 1 load–shedding from 11pm yesterday (7 December) until 9am this morning, the power utility has now shifted back into Stage 2.

In a statement Eskom said, “Stage 2 load-shedding will be implemented from 9am until 11pm tonight (8 December). Load–shedding is required all day today to cater for further trips and to create the capacity to replenish water reserves for our pumped storage schemes. Eskom will communicate if there is a change in the system during the day.”

They said it experienced unplanned breakdowns at 11 780MW early this morning. Eskom explained, “We continue to utilise water resources at our pumped storage schemes, to supplement capacity. We have not used any of our open cycle gas turbines (OCGTs) yesterday and are not planning to use them today in order to conserve our emergency reserves for the coming week.”
