House robber sentenced to 20 years

BRIXTON – 2012 crime ends in 20-year prison conviction.

Brixton Police Station is celebrating their investigating officers after their hard work led to a heavy sentence for one Auckland Park house robber. The case which has been ongoing since May this year came to an end at the Johannesburg High Court when one of the two suspects was found guilty and sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment.

The station’s spokesperson Jeanette Backhoff explained what transpired on the day the crime was committed back in 2012. “In December 2012, Brixton police were alerted of a house robbery that occurred early in the morning. The complainant stated that he was on his way to work when a friend of his contacted him to inform him that his alarm went off and that his security company called to find out if everything was still in order.”

The complainant rushed home to find the back door wide open and at that very moment, three men came from the main bedroom and attacked him.

Backhoff continued that the complainant was tied up with electrical cables once the men saw him. “One of the suspects demanded jewellery and money and the complainant said that there was no money in the house but that he should look in the car.”

After the suspects searched the house for valuables, they left the complainant alone. He then screamed for help. All role-players were called to the scene and the station’s Warrant Officer WM Walaza was given the case to investigate.

Due to the incredible work of following up on all information given to him, the warrant officer was able to identify, point out and arrest one of the suspects. Backhoff shared the station’s happiness over the work done by officer Walaza. “Warrant Officer Walaza is a dedicated investigation officer and his hard work and dedication is making a real difference. The management of the station is proud of the detectives.”
