Buy a globe to remember a loved one

SAXONWOLD – Remember friends or family who have passed away by purchasing a globe for the Tree of Light.

HospiceWits invites community members to remember their loved ones who have passed away by purchasing a globe for the Tree of Light at Joburg Zoo on 24 November.

The popular family event, which is now in its 11th year, raises funds for the treatment and care of over 5 600 patients and their families each year who have been impacted by life-threatening illness.

CEO of HospiceWits Jacqui Kaye said, “Every globe purchased helps HospiceWits provide very special, compassionate care and support to patients and their families with life-threatening illness in the comfort of their own home at a time of uncertainty. Our in-patient units in Houghton and Soweto offer patients and their families a home-away-from-home environment when home care is no longer possible. Our interdisciplinary team encourages patients to live their life to the fullest and offers quality of life with dignity that is free from pain.”

Individuals and corporates have the opportunity to purchase virtual or actual globes to remember their loved ones. Those buying virtual globes can write dedicated messages for loved ones which are shared on the Tree of Light website (www.tree-of-light.co.za). Physical globes are placed on the tree during the event where families and friends are invited to bring along picnic blankets and baskets to enjoy a wonderful evening of entertainment.

Corporate globes cost R350 each while individual globes cost R100. Visit www.tree-of-light.co.za to purchase globes.

Last year, HospiceWits lit up 2 000 globes at the Tree of Light ceremony. This year, they hope to increase the number of globes to 3 500. Funds received will enable HospiceWits to make a difference in the lives of over 5 600 patients and their families who are not able to afford to pay for services in the greater Johannesburg and Soweto areas.

Entrance to the Tree of Light ceremony is free. The event will begin at 5pm and continue until 8pm on 24 November. Community members can purchase food and drink at the event as well as purchase light up toys.
