JMPD arrests six taxi drivers in Fairland

FAIRLAND – The Metro Police has received numerous compliments from the public on reckless driving along Beyers Naude Drive near the N1 Bridge in Fairland.


Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) officers arrested six minibus taxi drivers for driving on the wrong side of Beyers Naude Drive on the N1 bridge in Fairland on 16 October between 7am and 8.30am.

JMPD spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the operation, Buyamthetho, was conducted after they received numerous complaints from the public of drivers driving on the wrong side of Beyers Naude Drive. “All six of the drivers were charged at Honeydew Police Station for reckless and negligent driving,  alternatively inconsiderate driving.”

Minnaar added that two of the drivers were also charged for bribery, the one attempted to bribe officers with R100.

“The second driver made a u-turn in the face of oncoming traffic in an attempt to evade the officers. But officers jumped into a patrol car and chased him. He attempted to bribe officers with R300.”

The operation was also conducted to coincide with Transport Month.
