Gauteng Education officially launches Digital Content and Online Assessment Platform

JOBURG – The platform will help to avail the digital content to ICT schools in the province.

The Gauteng Education MEC for Education and Youth Development, Panyaza Lesufi officially launched the Digital Content and Online Assessment Platform at Soshanguve East Secondary School, today, 11 October.

The e-learning platform will equip learners for the fourth revolution across the province Lesufi said. The digital content intends to improve the province’s approach by availing the digital content to Information and communications technology (ICT) schools.

Lesufi said, “Taking notes or cramming when a teacher delivers a lesson in class will be no more. Imagine parents setting their own tests and examinations for their children and the system marks the test/examination immediately and further the system provides reasons on why the learner got wrong answers. Imagine a world where all parents can log on when assisting their children with homework.  A world where teacher lesson plans are freely available. Imagine no further.”

Lesufi said they envision a model towards sustainability of e-learning in schools through the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) model, it enables schools that have their own ICT initiatives to benefit from the investment made by the department, by digitising the content and making the content available through the platform.

GDE’s content platform aims to support teaching and learning by providing:

Grades and subjects prioritised are Grade 10 to 12, mathematics, physical sciences, mathematical literacy, geography, accounting, Isizulu and Sepedi and life sciences, including Grades 8 and 9 in mathematics, natural sciences and technology.

The digital content offered by the department will enhance the e-content pre-loaded on all ICT devices provided to participating schools.
