Two suspects arrested for business robbery in Brixton

BRIXTON – A swift response from police led to the arrest of the two suspects, others are still at large.


The local police responded swiftly after a business robbery in Brixton, around 11pm on 29 September, leading to the arrest of two suspects. 

Provincial police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubele said, “It is alleged that about four to five suspects who were armed with pistols entered the shop. The suspects demanded money from the owner at gunpoint.  An undisclosed amount of cash was taken and more than six cell phones were also taken from the customers who were in the shop during the robbery.”

Makhubele said police who were patrolling the area during the time of the robbery, spotted the suspects as they were running on the corner of Kingsway and University Road, and gave chase.

“Two suspects were arrested and found in possession of stolen cell phones and unlicensed firearm believed to have been used during the robbery.”

Three suspects are still at large. The arrested suspects will appear in the Brixton Magistrates’ Court on 1 October, they have been charged with business robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms and possession of the suspected stolen property.
