Northcliff Primary Schools love their heritage

NORTHCLIFF – Learners celebrate different cultures and languages.


Learners from Northcliff Primary School celebrated Heritage Day, their diverse groups as well as their cultures with each other.

Suzy Beaumont from the school said, “It is important always to teach the kids that they are unique in the cultures but can unite as human beings.”

South Africans celebrate Heritage Day on 24 September, by remembering the cultural heritage of the many cultures that make up the country. Heritage plays an important role in promoting cultural diversity, social cohesion, reconciliation, peace and economic development.

Learners from Northcliff Primary School said:

Zoë Williams, Grade 7: “I love Heritage Day because I get to express myself through my culture, to teach people about it and also learn about other cultures.”

Precious James, Grade 7: “I love Heritage Day because we get to acknowledge our cultures as well as other countries.”

Zahreen Kajee, Grade 3: “Heritage Day is important to me because my culture is important to me and I want to share that with my friends and classmates.”

Zandile Sebako Grade 3: “We get to wear traditional clothes and teach other about our culture.”

Sabreen Kajee, Grade 3: “We get to learn and teach new languages on Heritage Month in our school.”

Nomagugu Khumalo, Grade 7: “On Heritage Day we get to see the different cultures we have in our school and that is important to me because I learn new things about that.”

Ziyanda Sebako, Grade 3: “Heritage Day reminds me that my culture and those of others is important and celebrated in our country.”
