LINDEN – Research into technology and social media wins an award for local resident.
A local resident and educator’s work was recently recognised when she received the prestigious Global Education Leadership Award in India.
Linden resident Dr Marlena Kruger, founder of the TechnoLifeWise Foundation and technology addiction expert, received a Global Education Leadership Award at the World Education Congress held in July in Mumbai, India. More than 500 education leaders from all over the world came together at this annual event to discuss Reorienting Education for a Sustainable Future.
She explained her joy with being named the winner of such a prestigious award. “It was such an honour to be recognised for the work that I do to help young and old live a well-balanced and healthy life with technology and social media.”
She went on to say that she used the platform to make people aware of Internet and game addiction disorders, digital dementia, electro-hypersensitivity and other digital-related development, health and wellness disorders.
Kruger founded the Technolife Wise Foundation in 2017 with the aim of helping young and old live a well-balanced and healthy life with technology and social media. By following a multi-modal approach, Kruger creates custom coaching services depending on the challenges of the family.
According to Kruger, not much research has been done into the overuse of technology and social media in South Africa and the effects that it has on young and old.
“We don’t need statistics to prove that we are addicted to technology and face the same challenges as people worldwide.”
She believes that it is essential that people become aware of the neuroscientific impact that technology has on their lives, families and society.
