Hi Sophiatown neighbours.

While not all of you might be interested in fibre immediately, there are immediate and future benefits of getting fibre into the area. The time will come where a fibre connection will be necessary to experience future communications and high definition entertainment as we move towards the world of the Internet.

We have approached many companies to put fibre into the area, and if we don’t secure the deal on the table by showing enough interest, we are going to be left behind as no one else is interested in installing fibre in the area anymore.

Showing interest does not mean that you are interested right away and is by no means a commitment. Your interest can be immediate, or in the future, even if it’s five years from now as the area will be fibre ready. If you decide you are interested in a few years and the area isn’t fibre ready, then you won’t have fibre available to install.

All our neighbouring suburbs have fibre: Albertville, Newlands, Westdene, Melville. We are missing the opportunity and we could get to a point where fibre providers are no longer interested in our area.

Benefits of Fibre to the Home which is available online:

  • Fibre is not subject to theft like copper is.
  • Fibre can handle large volumes of traffic and can, therefore, offer superfast internet access.
  • Fibre allows converged services, thereby allowing you to increase your experience and reduce costs.
  • Fibre is also very secure. It doesn’t radiate signals, making it difficult to tap into.
  • Fibre doesn’t require the regular maintenance that copper does.
  • Fibre is less affected by environmental challenges.
  • Potential home buyers get excited by a fibre-ready area.
  • Businesses are attracted to areas where there is fibre available.
  • While it is up for debate, the opinion is that fibre increases the value of your home.

The new provider will not be putting poles up, but rather trenching so the fibre will not be visible.

Please, let’s not leave our suburb behind.
