The Gauteng Department of Education has revised the date of placement of admissions in 2020 for Grade 1 and 8 learners to 18 September 2019.
The placement period for learner admissions was originally set for 30 August 2019. The department’s spokesperson, Steve Mabona, said the date change allows them and schools ‘sufficient time to scrutinise and verify all schools’ waiting lists to ensure that no learner will be unfairly disadvantaged’.
Parents of learners who have submitted the required documents should, therefore, expect to receive offers of placement via SMS from 18 September 2019 to 31 October 2019.
The department reiterated that offers of placement will not be sent to all parents on the same day, ‘as the department will be processing offers systematically in line with the order of application options outlined in the admissions regulations’.
Mabona added that placement will be done within seven schooling days, excluding school holidays. “The first offers received must be accepted by 8 October 2019.”
Placement offers can be accepted by visiting districts, head offices of the department or visiting your nearest school. Parents can also accept offers online by logging into www.gdeadmissions.gov.za
