Brixton police arrest two for housebreaking

BRIXTON – Two arrested and one more to follow after Women's Day housebreaking.

Police make arrests during a hectic increase in housebreakings. Brixton Police Station continues to warn residents that housebreakings are on the rise.

They provided tips on how to avoid becoming a victim of the crime but many still fell for it. The station did commit itself to dealing with the matter and has finally been able to catch two suspects.

According to Jeanette Backhoff, spokesperson for the station, the arrests came after a housebreaking in the area. “On 9 August at about 2.20am three males broke into a house in Brixton. They were seen by one of the females in the house and they demanded she lay on the ground, covered her with a blanket and continued to ransack the house.”

Backhoff said the suspects took a cellphone, wallet, TV, shoes and clothing and jumped over a wall to make their escape.

The case was reported immediately and descriptions of the suspects were given. Backhoff said, “Police officers started looking for the suspects and spotted them. When the suspects saw the police vehicle, one ran away while the other two still had some of the stolen property in their posession.”

Police were able to apprehend the two suspects with the stolen items. The remaining suspected is expected to be arrested soon following information received from the two already in custody.
