Hoërskool Linden wins again

LINDEN – Hoërskool Linden put on a grand display of their original play Bloudruk at the ATKV Tienertoneel Johannesburg-streeksfees 2019.

Hoërskool Linden’s talented young drama department put on a grand display of their original play Bloudruk at the ATKV Tienertoneel Johannesburg-streeksfees 2019, winning a plethora of awards in the process.

So far, the play has had two sold-out performances at the school on 29 and 30 July, as well the performance during the Tienertoneel at the University of Johannesburg Theatre on 31 July.

At the Tienertoneel, the drama team took away 10 awards, nine bronze and one silver, including awards for acting, lighting and set design.

Drama teacher and playwriter Nina Janse van Rensburg said, “It has just been such an amazing journey, and I am so proud of all of our youngsters.”

The name of the play Bloudruk means ‘blueprint’ in English.

Janse van Rensburg explained, “Bloudruk is a metaphor for the blueprint of the main family in the play’s life. It’s a crazy story that allows the audience to take what they want from the play, and to really feel the blueprint of your own life and how things can change in an instant.”

The setting for the play is on a rural farm, where characters remain on stage the whole time and include a mother, daughter, doctor and nurse.

The story focuses on an initially happy marriage that is torn to pieces when a pregnant mother loses one of her twins in the womb.

Characters help to raise the surviving sibling, with the father only making contact 16 years later.

What the father later discovers is, that on the day that he left, his wife and daughter were involved in a car accident, leaving his daughter with severe problems.

The story deals with a variety of deep social issues and twists that the young actors and actresses have embraced.

“I always love to write something new, and our kids really enjoy it as they discover and fall in love with each character. It also allows us to work as a team as we mould and adapt each character into shape,” said Janse van Rensburg.
