MMC inspects City’s pools

JOBURG – Pools to be ready for public use by 1 September.

Winter will soon be a thing of the past and Joburger’s will be looking forward to summery outfits, warmer days and swims at their local pools.

To ensure that the City of Johannesburg’s pools are ready for this period, MMC for Community Development Nonhlanhla Sifumba embarked on an inspection of the City’s swimming pools in Region B which includes Linden, Windsor East, Newclaire and Riverlea.

The inspection began at the Linden pool and Ward 99 councillor Nicole van Dyk was present to share the complaints she had previously received regarding the pool. She said the biggest issue at this pool was that the boilers at the facility were damaged during a power surge earlier in the year. Another issue was that some tiles in the change rooms were not non-slip, which posed a risk to those using the rooms.

Sifumba said the problems had been attended to by the City. She said, “Everything here is under control. The boilers and tiles have been repaired, serviced and sorted.” The water was currently warming up to the desired temperature and should be at its perfect level well before 1 September.

Sifumba then travelled with her team to Windsor East’s pool. There were no major issues reported at this pool but Ward 98 councillor Beverly Weweje revealed that residents in the area were more concerned about the pool in Windsor West. Sifumba said they would soon be paying a visit to that pool to attend to the issues there.
