Let’s Work receives R20 000 donation

BLACKHEATH – The Mandela Day project by Thunder Gun restaurant resulted in a huge donation to Ward 88's Let's Work.

There are many ways to help make your community a better place. You could donate money to a local NPO or help a restaurant do it.

The patrons of Thunder Gun restaurant did both on Mandela Day as the restaurant had committed to donating R67 of every main dish order to Let’s Work. After a day of families walking in and out of the restaurant, a total of 302 meals were sold on the day. This brought the final amount to be donated to R20 234.

As they have done in the past, Thunder Gun has participated in supporting Let’s Work, which is run by Felicity Gratz-Lawlor. Owner Paul McNab said they are very proud to support such a worthy community initiative.

Gratz-Lawlor shared her happiness with the donation, “Let’s Work thanks the business community for their support. ‘What we take for granted others pray for’, a roof over their heads, a warm place to sleep, not to go to sleep hungry. Everyone who supports us contributes to making that prayer possible.”

She said that the money will go towards the much-needed repairs to the Let’s Work Land Rover.

Gratz-Lawlor added that Let’s Work isn’t about her but about making the lives of people better. “It’s not about me, it’s about the guys who arrive for work, rain or shine, and pick up other people’s litter, put out fires in the park and make the ward we live in a better place. They’re not my team, they’re our team.”

Gratz-Lawlor wanted to extend her gratitude to McNab and all those that participated in the Madiba Day project for their continued support.
