KDVP hosts Ed Tech Summit

VICTORY PARK – The summits provide valuable opportunities for educators to learn, teach and grow to ensure that South African teachers enjoy continued professional development.

Kevin Baloyi, IT educator at King David Victory Park Primary School is one of four producers of Ed Tech Summit Africa.

The school’s primary school hosted one of the 2019 Summits on 28 July, with over 100 educators from both the public and private schools in attendance.

The annual Ed Tech Summits serve as a teacher training opportunity geared to improve classroom best practices with exposure to creative technology-rich strategies and innovative solutions for teaching, learning, and assessment. The event saw facilitators design and present interactive workshops for educators looking to grow not only their teaching toolkit but also their understanding of what is possible in order to apply new ideas and strategies to improve student achievement and engagement in the classroom.

Baloyi said about his workshop, “The successful technology integration for teaching, learning, and assessment focused on maximising the use of strong apps and websites in order to ensure that educators find and use the best applications for their classrooms. All the apps and sites explored have been tried and tested and considered extremely effective by a vast number of teachers around the world.”

“Most apps do not run effectively and efficiently on their own but benefit most from a teacher who guides their use resulting in highly successful outcomes. In this workshop, teachers were able to easily design lessons that utilise apps both in the school day as well as for homework and even test prep,” Baloyi ended.
