JOHANNESBURG – Caxton Joburg North chose Sunshine Centre Craighall to echo Tata’s memory with #CaxtonPaints4Tata.

There’s nothing like bringing a little sunshine to the world, a vision which, under Caxton Cares, is shared with South African and world-wide icon Tata Nelson Mandela.

As thousands of citizens celebrated the memory of Madiba on 18 July by donating 67 minutes of their time, Caxton Joburg North took Sunshine Centre Craighall into their hearts to share a little cheer with #CaxtonPaints4Tata.

Rosebank Killarney Gazette saw the need to help the children who have a variety of disabilities. When speaking to the staff, their desires would be to have their classrooms repainted and carpets cleaned.

The Gazette team set off to approach local businesses or community members that would like to partner under the Caxton Cares banner. The biggest cost would be the paint and supplies which were generously donated by Houghton-based investment company Safika Holdings (Pty) Ltd. The team donated 30 litres of paint as well as 15 paint trays and loads of brushes.

Co-owner of local Parkhurst pub and restaurant, Founders at Giles, Michael Evlambiou, was delighted to get on board. He immediately volunteered his team to fill the tummies of all the hard-working Caxtonites and centre staff who painted classrooms.

Of course the community joined #CaxtonPaints4Tata by donating cleaning products and educational toys to the centre.

West Park Blairgowrie also took up the challenge as they donated extra cleaning products, toilet paper and much-needed items to help us paint.

Sister newspapers Sandton Chronicle, Alex News, North Eastern Tribune, Northcliff Melville Times and Randburg Sun joined in on #CaxtonPaints4Tata. All manner of Caxtonites were seen either scrubbing walls, filling up paint tins or adding an extra coat of paint on Mandela Day.

A couple of Randburg police members chose to join the teams by adding their 67 minutes to the initiative showing that two important institutes within the community can unite for a greater cause.

Spokesperson Captain Makgowanyana Maja said, “We at Randburg police are happy to spend our 67 minutes here, we are making the school bright and shiny.”

Social worker and centre manager Boitumelo Ntamela said, “Today was a success, it was well organised and everyone seemed to have fun. Thank you to Caxton Joburg North and all of the sponsors.”
