Police investigate wild case including kidnapping, attempted murder, and armed robbery.

What many would believe was a scene out of a movie was the real-life experience of four victims as they were targeted and ambushed by four armed men. This comes as the victims had their vehicle stopped at an intersection on 6 July by four suspects.

According to the spokesperson of the Brixton Police Station Jeanette Backhoff, “Four males jumped out of a vehicle and pointed their firearms at the complainant’s windows. The driver of the complainant’s car managed to drive off until he came to a stop at a red robot.”

Backhoff said the suspects took advantage of the stop and blocked the vehicle from the front. They returned to the car’s windows with firearms in hand and demanded cash from the occupants and this is when shots were fired.

She added, “They demanded money and R5 000 was given to them. They demanded more money and when they could not get more money, they fired three shots and took one victim and forced him into their car and drove off with him.”

Later that day, thanks to the information that the police was following up, the kidnapped victim, car and one of the suspects were traced to in Diepkloof, Soweto.

The kidnapped victim was found with minor injuries and rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

Backhoff said, “The one suspect was found inside the vehicle with a gunshot wound and an unlicensed firearm. The suspect was taken to hospital for treatment and is currently still in hospital under police guard.”

Backhoff confirmed that cases of kidnapping, attempted murder and armed robbery have been opened and are being investigated. She added that information regarding the outstanding three suspects are being followed up and arrests will be made soon.
