Linden Police investigate case involving a man whose possessions were stolen by people he gave a lift to

LINDEN – Police warn the public to be cautious when giving lifts to unknown people.

Man robbed by three females unknown to him after giving them a lift and booking a hotel room for them.

A man woke up to realise that his wallet, cell phone, and vehicle were stolen at a local hotel after he was taken advantage of by a group of women he had met in Fourways at around 4am on 30 June. According to Constable Takalani Matumba, spokesperson of the Linden Police Station, they are currently investigating this case of theft and theft of a motor vehicle.

Matumba stated that the complainant said he went to park his Mercedes Benz at a parking lot while he was accompanied by four women, one of whom was his colleague. The other three women had been picked up at a club in Fourways. She added, “The complainant alleged that he went to book two rooms and he took the two ladies with him and the other two were in the other room. The two women from the other room came into his room and gave him a drink and he fell asleep.”

Matumba added that when he woke up he realised that the three women he picked up from Fourways had left and he was only left with his colleague. When the man inspected the room he noticed that his wallet and cell phone were missing, along with the Mercedes Benz that he had parked in the parking lot.

Linden police are urging the public and motorists to be careful of whom they give lifts to. Matumba said, “At the end of the day, people get robbed by the same people who they picked from the street for the sake of having fun. We are pleading with the community to refrain from picking up unknown people.”
