The Friends of Alberts Farm Conservancy (FOAFC) is inviting nearby residents, the public and users of the park to join them on 6 July for their family fun day.
Through this fundraising initiative, they will seek to raise enough money to remove the invasive alien plants that have become the source of resident’s safety and security concerns.
Nina Venjakob, member of Friends of Alberts Farm Conservancy, listed a few of the alien plants that destroy the flagship park, “Spanish reeds, bankrotbos [also known as slangbos or bankrupt bush], black locusts, blackjacks, bugweeds, verbena, pom-poms, the list goes on and on and on. We need to raise funds to reclaim our beautiful conservancy.”
On the day there will be tea, coffee, and cake on sale while Pieter Kruger and friends keep those in attendance entertained with live music. The public is urged to join this fundraising campaign by donating a cake or ordering one from one of its members, as these will be the cakes that are on sale. There will also be a jumping castle for the children, a raffle with great prizes up for grabs and most importantly, one of the best parks in Gauteng open to explore and relax in on a calm Saturday morning.
This promises to be a day of leisure and positive impact, so as Venjakob said, “Bring a chair, or a cushion or a blanket and come and relax.”
